"As a beauty photographer, my team and I strive for every woman who comes in front of my lens to have an amazing experience from which she leaves feeling elegant, glamorous, and empowered, with the opportunity to purchase images that remind her every day of her beauty." -Michael Z Rork
Your experience will start with a pre-shoot consultation with Michael, either in person or on the phone, to discuss the look and feel you want for your images, as well as to answer any questions you still have about what to expect and how to prepare. After we chat you will take the time to decide on your overall look, to pick out your outfits, and to decide on a location for your shoot. Michael will be available to help guide you with all of these decisions. On the day of your shoot you will be pampered with professional hair and makeup (with makeup by Meg Walsh), and be guided with posing and expression.
Throughout your experience our goal is to make sure you are comfortable and having fun, then to capture those moments. Your job is to simply be yourself. Expect laughter. Bring a snack. Bring a friend. This experience is all about you!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is beauty photography?
Beauty photography is, at it's most basic, the art of giving someone permission to feel beautiful. This generally comes in the form of boudoir, glamour, or pinup.
What is the difference between boudoir, glamour, and pinup?
Boudoir is about feeling sexy in your favorite lingerie, while glamour is more about feeling elegant in something less revealing, like a nice dress. Boudoir tends to be our most popular style, but there is no reason we cannot shoot both boudoir and glamour at the same time.
Pinup tends to be more about telling a story with cute poses and outfits, and is generally shot on a solid color background to help emulate the classic look from the 1940s. The outfits used can range from bathing suits, to sailor suits, to lingerie, to almost anything else you can think of! These are the sort of images that go well with props.
Do I need to know how to pose?
Absolutely not! We will help guide you with posing and expression throughout your session. You do not need to know anything about modeling before getting in front of the camera. While a few of our clients have modeled professionally, the vast majority have never had any experience, and that's OK! (And if you're lucky, Michael may even demonstrate the poses for you first!)
What should I wear?
You should wear outfits that make you feel sexy or confident. This can range from your favorite lingerie, to an empowering dress. The general rule is if you look in the mirror and feel great wearing it, it's perfect for your shoot! We're also more than happy to help guide you with your outfit selection!
How many outfits should I bring?
We recommend limiting yourself to 3 or 4 outfits or looks for the shoot. Any more than that get cluttered, and we often don't have time to do more than 4.
If you're shooting boudoir, we recommend bringing at least one glamorous option–something as basic a little black dress, or something as fancy as an evening gown. It's nice to be able to shoot at least one photo you'd feel comfortable showing your grandmother. Similarly, if you're doing a glamour shoot, don't be afraid to bring an extra look that's more on the sexy side, just in case you feel like getting a photo that's for your eyes only.
How long does a photo session take?
The entire experience takes between 5 and 6 hours. Hair and makeup generally take about 1 hour each, and the photo shoot itself takes between 2-3 hours. (Plus there is always about an hour lost in setup, travel time, and communication.)
Where does the shoot take place?
That's up to you! We are a mobile studio that will come to you, and we love shooting in our client's home! But if that doesn't work for you, some of the other options are to shoot in a hotel room, at a bed and breakfast, or even in a bar. If we shoot in your home, you'll want to make sure that you clear away any clutter and have enough room for us to move around and put up our lights. Depending on the weather, shooting outdoors can be a creative alternative.
Will my photos be viewable to the public?
Not unless you grant us permission to use them! Every woman you see on this site has explicitly granted us permission to use their images in marketing. If you prefer to keep your images 100% private, then no one outside of our team and those you choose to show them to will see your photos!
Who is the photographer and are they male or female?
Our photographer is Michael Z Rork. He has been shooting boudoir professionally since 2010 and does everything possible to make sure his clients are comfortable and relaxed throughout their experience. One way this is accomplished is to make sure there is always a female assistant present throughout the session.
How much does this all cost?
Our clients tend to invest around $1200 on their photos. View our full pricing here.
"I just wanted to thank you for the shoot on Wednesday. It was such an incredible experience. You were both very professional and made me feel instantly at ease. I had originally seen these photos as capturing the sadness and loss I've felt over the last year but the shoot was so empowering. You were able to give me a confidence I didn't know I had. The surgery went really well yesterday and I am so excited to see the images when they're ready. Please pass along my gratitude to Meg as well." -Julia
"Michael and his team were professional and talented. They made the experience fun and collaborative. Michael took beautiful photographs and put together a book that my new husband absolutely loves. Thanks!" -Abby
"I am completely trilled by Michael and his photography skills!! I had the best time creating the pictures for my Boyfriend for his Birthday!! I wasn't at all nervous because of the professionalism magnitude that Michael gives. I loved how the pictures came out and overjoyed at the little touches and the thoughts and gifted, creative ideas that he comes up with." -Kelly
"Working with Michael was a wonderful experience. I met with him before the photo shoot to discuss my interests and get a sense of how he works. I instantly felt comfortable and felt like I understood what would be involved... Michael had a clear vision for many photos and, with his direction and the help of his wife, I got a book of amazing photos. I was a bit nervous my husband would be jealous, but one look at the book erased any fears - he was floored! A great experience, a gifted photographer and a beautiful, fun result." -Gillian
"I can’t say enough wonderful things about working with Michael, Athena and their makeup artist Meg Walsh. It was an incredibly positive experience. Three weeks before my shoot, I was diagnosed with a bone marrow disorder that had compromised my whole immune system. I am exhausted, sick much of the time, and unable to enjoy many activities I used to enjoy. Doing the shoot was such an amazing break from my illness; I could never thank them enough for that. Getting to see the photos afterward, my first thought was; 'models and actresses are nothing special! Anyone can look that amazing if you have wonderful people doing your makeup, lighting you right and getting all the right angles.' I couldn't believe how pretty I looked. After weeks of people telling me I looked sick, sitting around the house in my pajamas feeling awful, walking around the hospital in those funny robes, it was like I had been transported to another time and place in these photos. This shoot was the best thing I could have done to lift my spirits in the middle of this difficult time." -Jill
